Some of us camped at the put in on Friday. It is a beautiful place.
Hondo arch is right there and the scenery is gorgeous. We were there right at sunset and the orange on the rocks just glowed.
There were HOARDS of river runners at the put in. We compared the experience to Disneyland- both because there were lots of people and it was FUN!
The best part of the river, in my humble opinion, are the slot canyon sections. Here is Big C floating serenely through the bottom part of the Chute section. Notice the logs jammed up high from previous flash floods.
It was not deep at all. A couple people in our group got dumped out of their boats and just stood up and got back in. The currents were pretty swift though. We did it in 5 1/2 hours (the half an hour was lunch).
This is a huge log jam wedged between the canyon walls. It was there 6 years ago too. We couldn't have asked for a better day to do it. It was in the high 80's and even though the wind blew hard a few times, we stayed very warm. I can't wait to do it again. Maybe it will be running again next Saturday...

Oh I hope it is. I'm feeling stronger every day and I really, really want to run it this year.
It looks like you guys had a blast!
I found your blog too! This river trip looks like it was lots of fun (and sunnier!) Your blog is really cute. It was so fun getting to know you better!
