GREEN RIVER for MEMORIAL DAY

Our Green River trip didn't start out so hot this year. We got to the campground at Swayze's Beach and found that they have started charging this year, so they wouldn't let us camp on the beach anymore. It is very depressing when the government starts taking over everything and telling you what you can and can't do. Freedoms are being lost everyday and nobody cares. It's a sad sign of our society.

Then, our friend that was with us stepped into some melting sand where a fire pan had been and burned the bottoms of his feet so bad that Big C and I ended up driving him to the hospital back in Gunnison.

He'll be okay, but he'll have to stay off his feet for a couple weeks and that's not good for him. He's a very busy person and now he can't work for Big C. He was not happy. I was so sick for him. It was terrible.

Big C and I drove back to Green River early the next morning with his parents and ran the river with everyone. It was a great river day! Nice and warm and lots of water.

Lots of people need lots of boats. We had around 30 people there.

This is the first year we took the SUP's down the river. C Man was pretty good at it.

A LITTLE BIT OF SPRING

Accelerated soccer is finally done. Little C's pink team came in 3rd in his league. He seemed okay with that. I think he's glad to be done. It cut into his 'friend' time too much. He really does enjoy hanging out with friends.

Ancient coins from 2000?

I found these little treasures in a little 'pocket/trap' at the front of my washer. There was gravel, nails, carpenter pencils and coins. Only the pennies seemed to be roughed up, the silver coins were fine. I can't believe how small some of them are compared to the new penny. Strange...

Snow College had finals week this week, so we had DM over for one last dinner before he went home for the summer. He brought his 'dirt jumper' down and Little C just had to try it out. It is a pretty cool bike.

Big C made a horrible discovery when he went to get the sprinklers going. We have a water main leak. D's closet floor was soaked and he never told us. Big C has been digging for 3 days and finally found it. The pipes had settled and gotten some pin hole leaks in them. Boo. It has made for some stressful days for Big C.

Women's Conference 2013

My older sister just started working for BYU and got me a free pass to Women's Conference. I went yesterday and it was wonderful. It was great to hear the speakers, but mostly just fun to be with my sis! I'm so sad I can't go today, but my grades are not in (not even close).  

Well, there's my random update for the week.

LOOK WHAT THE CAT DRAGGED IN

We had an interesting cat experience yesterday at our house. My youngest son and his friends accidently let in a stray cat and chased it into my daughter's room. We couldn't get near it. I think it might have been hurt or abused, but it stunk and we had to get it OUT! I ended up putting on my rubber gardening gloves and a thick jacket and went down to deal with it. After about 7 tries, I was able to hold on to it long enough to get it to the door. It was SCARY- hissing and clawing for all it was worth. That was quite an ordeal that I am glad is over! Anyone ever had anything like that happen to them? It was a new one for me.

DID I EVER MENTION HOW MUCH I HATE ATV'S?

We have never owned an ATV for the simple reason that we think they are too dangerous. I know that sounds bizarre with all of the outdoor things we do, but it is something my husband and I have always agreed on.

About a month ago, my sister brought her Rhino down and left it with us. She lives in a highly populated area and wasn't able to use it very often and thought it would be fun for us to use and then it would be here (in the 'country') when she came to visit.

Last Monday for Family Night we went up in the mountains to roast hot dogs and make s'mores with my husband's family. My 14 year old took the Rhino for a ride with his cousin and he tipped it over. He was wearing a seat belt and helmet, but stuck his hand out intinctively to 'catch' himself and ended up losing part of his ring finger and breaking two other fingers (compound fractures) and a couple bones in his hand. His cousin was unharmed and ran over a mile back to tell us what had happened.

After waiting 8 hours for surgery, this is what his hand looked like... (my husband took photos of the injury for A to see later, but like S says- it looks like a zombie movie, so I won't share those with you).

Orange arrow shows his missing ring finger. Green arrow is his pinned index finger and blue arrow is his pinned middle finger (the bone got twisted and they had to do surgery to fix it too). Initially they were worried about the ring finger not having enough skin to keep the whole thing, but with lots of fasting and prayer and a Priesthood blessing, the skin looks really good and he's going to keep half of it. If you remember, he is my guitarist and pianist, so he is VERY thankful. Just another testimony to me that Heavenly Father is aware of us and hears and answers our prayers.

Here he is the next morning. Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City is the most amazing hospital on the planet! The best nurses and doctors work there and we are so grateful!

He is doing really well and has to have one more surgery for a skin graph on Wednesday and then he'll be good to go. Needless to say, my hatred of ATV's has doubled.
